Goliath

Goliath is the leader of the Manhattan Clan Gargoyles. Strong and clever he is fiercely loyal to his clan and his friends. Well aware of humanity's fears and having experienced their betrayals Goliath is cautious of the humans he befriends. In the past his only human friend was the Captain of the Guard at Castle Wyvern. When Goliath and his kind were betrayed by the Captain to the Vikings (resulting in the almost complete destruction of his clan) he completely lost his faith in humanity. This was further compounded by the Magus's rash spell that locked what was left of his clan in stone. When David Xanatos and Demona woke Goliath and his clan from their stone sleep, Goliath grudgingly gave his trust to the megamillionare only to have it betrayed again. This betrayal was even more damaging as it came with the aid of his former love and angel of the night, Demona. This almost caused Goliath to completely lock himself away with only his duties and loyalty to what was left of his clan to sustain him. It was only through Elisa Maza, a human police detective, that Goliath regain some of his trust in the human race. Elisa and Goliath have grown to be very close friends, perhaps even going beyond friends in their feelings for one another. Goliath has not embraced the 20th century as whole-heartedly as the other gargoyles of his clan. Unlike the Trio and Hudson, Goliath does not go to movies or watch television. He prefers to spend his evenings, when not on patrol, in the library reading books by some of the "new" authors like Shakespeare. As a result he isn't as aware of current lingo and popular culture as the rest of the Manhattan clan, but for the most part is very well educated.
