Oberon

Oberon is the father, king and most powerful of the third race, the fey. Commonly called "Oberon's Children", it is unclear whether or not he is the actual father of the whole race. It seems more an honorary title. Oberon is imperious, demanding, and arrogant. In the year 993 he banished his children (including his wife) from their home in Avalon to teach them humility out in the human world. He himself however seems to be sadly lacking this quality. He is contemptuous of the other races, completely disregarding their feelings and rights.

He was first encountered when he returned to Avalon in 1996. There he found Princess Katherine, the Guardian Tom, and the Gargoyle children who had made their home on the island. Goliath, Elisa and Angela had just returned to the island after another fruitless search for Manhattan. Oberon ordered the community gone from his isle, and when they refused began to use his magic to destroy the clan. Titania stopped him, offering him a greater diversion. She challenged him to a hunt. She would strip him of most of his powers, leaving him only the powers of a child, and he would hunt the champions of the clan. If he won he would be rewarded by her becoming his wife once more. Oberon agreed, and with only minor difficulty defeated Angela, Gabriel, and Goliath, the champions of the Avalon clan. But, deciphering clues left by Titania, Elisa discovered Oberon’s one weakness, cold iron. She, Princess Katherine and Tom fashioned and iron bell, which when rang sapped Oberon of his powers. When they had him at their mercy they spared him, Tom saying he would not strike any creature while it was helpless. Impressed Oberon made a deal with Princess Katherine, allowing her clan to stay upon the isle and making the gargoyles his guard. He also promised not to harm any of them again, in return Katherine agreed that they would not use the bell against his kind.

Oberon reappeared during the Gathering. Upset that Puck had not returned home when called he borrowed Berdita (gargoyle dog of the Avalon clan) to scent him out. He traveled with his now wife and Queen, Titania to Manhattan. It was there he discovered that Titania had had a child, Fox, and that while she was a lost cause magically her new-born baby Alexander was magically capable. Titania suggested that they take the child with them to Avalon so that is might be raised to use it abilities. But the Xanatoses where tipped off by Owen, who also being Puck, realized that Titania would have an interest in the child. Owen, while unable to fight his liege king or aid his employer Xanatos, had laid certain protections on the house to help in the upcoming battle. Besides his innumerable other resources, such as the Steel Clan, Xanatos was also aided by Fox’s father Halcyon Renard and his airship, and unexpectedly by the Manhattan Clan. In the end however it wasn’t enough, even Puck deciding to stand with the defenders didn’t help. It was only when Fox used her heretofore untapped magical powers in the protection of her child, along with some fast talking by Owen, Xanatos, and Goliath, that stayed Oberon from taking the child. He did however exile Puck from Avalon forever, forcing him to remain human except for when he was teaching Alexander the use of his magical powers.
