Luna and Artemis were the only two true "surviors" of Queen Beryl's attack on the moon kingdom. Unlike the scouts, who died and were reborn on Earth, or the Negaverse who were sealed away, the two cats were sent to earth in cryogenic tubes. They were sent by Queen Serenity to find the reborn children and guide them should the negaverse ever break through again.

But Luna usually rebuffs him claiming that he is too rough and crude. But she isn't as untouched as she'd like you to think. In the future she and Artemis have a kitten named Diana. Diana serves Chibi-Usa's (Reeni) companion and guardian.

When Queen Beryl began her forays from the negaverse onto the Earth to collect energy the cats awoke and set out to find the scouts. Artemis found Mina a trained her to fight as Sailor V. Luna continued searching until she found Sailor Moon and the rest of the scouts. They continue to train the team together. In the original Japanese, Artemis is always hitting on Luna. He has quite the crush on the pretty black cat.
