1000 years ago Queen Serenity ruled the universe from her castle on the Moon. It was a time of peace and harmony called the Silver Millenium. The Queen had a young daughter, Princess Serena, who had fallen in love with Prince Darien, handsome prince of the Earth.
The peace was shattered when the evil Queen Beryl took over the Earth, unleashing the Negaforce, and tried to take over the Moon Kingdom. Princess Serena and her court, the warriors of the planets, along with Prince Darien tried to fight of the evil Queen's minions.
Alas they all fell. To save her beloved daughter Queen Serenity used her Silver Imperium Crystal to trap Queen Beryl in the Negaverse and to send the children of the Moon to the future to be reborn into new peaceful lives. She also sent the two cat guardians, Artimis and Luna, to protect and teach them should Queen Beryl ever break through again. This took the last of Queen Serenity's strength, and with the Moon Kingdom in shatters around her, she died.
In the future, a young girl named Serena was given a brooch by Luna that allowed her to transform into Sailor Moon. Though neither she nor Luna knew it, she was the Moon Princess reborn. After finding the rest of her court, the Sailor Scouts, Sailor Mercury (Amy), Sailor Mars (Raye), Sailor Jupiter (Lita), Sailor Venus (Mina) and occasionally aided by the mysterious Tuxedo Mask the team defeated Queen Beryl's four generals, and then Queen Beryl herself, this time for good.
Along the way Serena discovered her heritage, and found out the obnoxious Darien she constantly fought with was actually Tuxedo Mask and the reborn Prince of the Earth. In the final battle with Queen Beryl however all the scouts memories where wiped clean, erasing any knowledge of each other or thier pasts. Though there was no longer any danger from the negaverse, a new threat soon arose.
The Aliens, Alan and Ann, came to Earth stealing energy to feed their Doom Tree so they themselves would survive. Forced to leave their normal lives behind once more, the Sailor Scouts re-awoke to fight off this threat.
All but Darien remembered their pasts. This was heart-breaking for Serena, having just found him again. Tuxedo Mask too seemed to have dissapeared being replaced by the Moonlight Knight.
After fighting off the Cardians sent to steal energy, the Sailor Scouts finally confronted the Aliens and the Doom Tree on their own turf. They discovered that the tree was not only not evil, but was sentient as well.
Once called the Tree of Life it had weakened past the ability to talk when it's people had fought and killed on another. Further weakened by the stolen energy, the hate and fear, fed to it by an unknowing Alan and Ann it finally struck back at the two, killing Ann.
The fight gone out of him, Alan wept over his lost love while Sailor Moon cleansed the Tree of the evil it had been fed. The newly healed seedling brought Ann back to life. During the fight, Sailor Moon discovered that The Moonlight Knight was the fighting soul of Darien. Too weak after the fight with Queen Beryl, he had been unable to become Tuxedo Mask and his soul had found another way to protect his love. He rejoined with Darien, and once again Darien and Serena were together. Once again there was peace.
One day a little girl with pink hair in a style similar to Serena's fell out of the sky. Landing on Darien and immediatly demanding Serena give her the Silver Imperium Crystal, Rini was trouble from the start. Her motives unkown Sailor Moon and the Sailor Scouts were never-the-less compelled to defend her from Rubeus and the four Weird Sisters that pursued her. They also foild the sisters attempts to turn stratigic points in Tokyo into bases of evil. If they had succeeded the future would have been in grave danger.
Meanwhile Darien discovered that he felt a strange bond with Rini, and Serena grew jealous of thier friendship. She was devistated when Darien broke up with her, convinced she'd done something wrong or that Rini had somehow stolen him from her. The truth of the matter was however that Darien had been having horrible dreams that implied that if he stayed close to Serena something terrible would happen to her. Sailor Moon managed to fight on, one by one healing the Weir d sisters, turning them to good. The US episodes end here, leaving Rini's orgins a mystery and not telling us how Serena and Darien might get back together in the future. Nor is it revealed how they defeat the Wiseman and Rubius.
