The How-To of Linking and Anchoring

Links are what connect your different pages together. An anchor is a collection of links that allow you to move around inside your page.

Here are some examples of regular links:

The HTML code for an "internal link", a link that takes you to another page you made, looks like this:

<HREF = "filename.html"> Linked text</A>

The HTML code for an "external link", or one that goes out into the internet to another site, looks like this:

<HREF ="http://the.server.address/directory(if needed)/filename.html"(if needed)> Linked text</A>

Here are a couple of examples of Anchors:

This is just a bunch of stuff I need to link my anchors to, taken from

(when you are done testing out the links to see how they work
click here to jump past it. This is also an anchor.)

The HTML for anchors comes in two parts, the anchor link and the anchor point. The anchor link is the higlighted text that takes you to a section of your page. The anchor point tells the anchor where to go. This is what the code looks like:

    Anchor Point:

< A NAME="NameOfAnchorPoint">This is point where the anchor will take you. (linked text)</A>

    Anchor Link:

<A HREF="#NameOfAnchorPoint">Clicking this will take you to the Anchor Point(linked text)</A>

Note: The linked text of an anchor point will not look any different then the text around it. The Anchor link will look just like a regular link.
