3x3 Eyes:Perfect Collection

Tape Reviewed: 3x3 Eyes: Perfect Collection

A Quick Little Overview: Yakumo meets Pai, a girl from Tibet. Turns out she was sent to him with the last wishes of his Father who disappeared years ago in Tibet searching for a race of people called the tri-clops. Tri-clops are an ancient immortal race that are an offshoot of humanity. Yakumo's father promised Pai, who is a Tri-clops, that he would help her find a special statue that will allow her to become human. Along the way Yakumo is fatally wounded, to save him Pai's third eye reveals itself and she "eats" his soul. Now no matter how much damage Yakumo sustains, he can't die and his forehead is marked with the sign of a souless one, a zombie. Now tied to Pai until she becomes human Yakumo is forced to help her so that his life might return to normal.

What's to Love: You might think from the overview that this is a very depressing anime. It's actually very funny, in a black humor sort of way. They seem to have taken Yakumo's inability to die as a personal challenge to see how much damage they can put him through. He gets killed by a giant bird thing, run over by a bus, thrown out a window, attacked by all sorts of supernatural creatures, and has a bridge fall on him. Pai's flips between innocent young girl and all-knowing Tri-clops are handled well and arent too jarring. The animation is good and the voices are good as well.

What's to Hate: The violence can get to you after a while. There is blood just about every where. On this tape there are two distinct stories, and neither of them ends. Both end on sort of cliff-hangers and there isn't as far as I know any other anime. The story only continues in the manga. Both of the stories do end, you aren't biting your nails in frustration or anything. But there are a lot of unanswered questions.

What's the Final Say: This anime is entertainig, and really fun. It can be a bit gory at times but never really outside of the story. One might wish for a few more answers though.
