Tuxedo Mask Tuxedo Mask is a complicated soul. He is the only "non-sailor scout" protector. Like the Sailor Scouts, he is a prince of a planet, the planet Earth. His signature is a single red rose which he weilds in battle like a steel dart. This rose is able to shatter stone and pierce flesh. Tuxedo Mask fights along side the sailor scouts, often showing up to give that last minute distraction that allows Sailor Moon to destroy her foes. But Tuxedo Mask is not part of the sailor's team, he often has his own agenda and his own reasons for fighting.

Often times those reasons aren't fully understood even to himself. At first Darien, Tuxedo Mask's alter ego, didn't even realize that he was the masked man. He merely blacked out, and only had an inkling of who he was due to his dreams. After he gained a couple of the Rainbow Crystals, he realized that he was Tuxedo Mask and that he needed to get the other crystals to free the mysterious princess in his dreams. Determined to get them he told Sailor Moon that he'd be back for hers and that nothing would stop him from getting them. Tuxedo Mask knew that he had to free the princess if he had any hope of ever knowing who he was. Darien is an orphan, his parents where killed in a car accident when he was very young. He wasn't even sure if his name was Darien. It wasn't until he and Sailor Moon remembered their past that he knew once more who he was. A 1000 years ago he was the prince of the Earth, his planet had just been invaded by the Evil Queen Beryl. He was in love with the young princess of the Moon Kingdom and had gone to visit her when his planet fell to the Evil Queen. In trying to protect her he and the princess were killed and thier souls, along with the rest of the scouts were sent to the Earth to be reborn into a happier future.

It was shortly after he was awakened to his past that it was once again stripped away from him. He was captured by Queen Beryl and brainwashed into becoming the evil Prince Dairen, champion of the negaverse. He forgot his true love Serena, and fought to bring evil into the world. But even in this changed form his true soul would periodically re-awaken preventing him from doing harm to the sailors. At the last minute, when it seemed that Queen Beryl had truely killed Darien's memories, Sailor Moon cured him. He then sacrificed himself to help Serna defeat the Queen, becoming seriously wounded. Due to his wounds, Darien was unable to become Tuxedo Mask. But his soul needed to make sure that Serena was safe and wouldn't come to harm. This soul, his pure fighting soul, became a seperate entity known as the Moonlight Knight. Dressed as an Arabian, weilding a saber and a white rose, Darien's soul continued to look out for Sailor Moon and the rest of the scouts. But as Darien he remembered nothing. When he was finally strong enough, he remembered and once again became Tuxedo Mask and was reunited with his love, Sailor Moon. It wasn't long before new strife was wedged between them, forcing them apart. But destiny cannot be denied and soon they will be together again.
