Ranma Saotome has a little problem, okay, a few problems. The "big" one, would be the little gift he brought back from his training trip to China. After traveling to Jusenkyou with his father and being knocked into Nyan-nii-chuan, the spring of drowned girl, he is now cursed with turning into a very cute, very buxom girl. Not an easy curse to live with for such a "macho" guy. Forced to return to Japan by his father he's then forced by his father and hers to be fianceed to Akane Tendo, a rather tom-boyish girl. From the beginning they're like oil and water, fighting like cats and dogs. Both profess to hate the other and often lament that they wish they weren't fianceed to each other. Ranma often makes fun of Akane, calling her "uncute" and a tomboy. Never-the-less he gets very upset if he thinks she's falling for one of her other many suitors. In other words, I think he doth protest to much.
Ranma is a master martial artist and is never defeated for long. He was once quoted as saying about himself and Akane "We can win anything with 'Martail Arts' in the title!" He's proved it by winning every match and getting every title imaginable. He is the current champion of Martial Arts Rythmic Gymnastics, Martial Arts Figure Skating (with Akane), Martail Arts Take Out, Martial Arts Melon Splitting, Martial Arts Cheerleading, Martial Arts Swimming, and many other titles too numerous to name.
His one Achilles heel is his penchant for collecting fiancees. It seems just about every few weeks he either gains a new fiancee or is fighting to keep one he already has. It's not that he seems to have any interest in the other girls, other than to note that they might be cute or good cooks, but he can't stand to be defeated! He so hates the thought of losing ANYTHING, that he even gets drawn into stuff like a "cuteness" contest in his girl form against Tsubasa, one of Ukyo's suitors.
He is also saddled with Happosai, his father's former Master. Unable to defeat the old pervert for long he can't seem to get rid of the old man. For his part, Happosai isn't particulary interested in leaving, especially not until he gets to see Ranma's female self in a bra.
